The chemistry was there, the band came together, and quickly became greater than the sum of its parts. The feeling of making great music, the collaboration, the camaraderie, the sound – these are the things that draw players back to live group performance. Life takes us in a lot of directions, but for guys like these with a passion for music there’s no escaping it, they’ve got to play and they want to be heard.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in the wilds of Wisconsin, Mandi Strachota is the product of southern roots and Midwest know-how, a potent mix of practicality and soulful dreaming. Mandi has become a fixture on the Atlanta scene, playing at local spots like Northside Tavern and Darwin’s Burgers and Blues, as well as several other spots around town and in the Southeast. She is a lead vocalist for the Wasted Potential Brass Band who performed at Bonnaroo and the Super Bowl within the past year and recently released their first full length album titled Ruining the Surprise Party.  Her collaboration with local blues legend Mudcat on his latest release Castaway has attracted the attention of local music connoisseurs. She is known for her soulful vocals, but is a multi-instrumentalist who is quickly becoming known for her songwriting. Mandi released her debut album Fly in the fall of 2013. Her latest project Unleashed, which was released in September of 2017, tells her very honest story of self-discovery. Embracing R&B, gospel and soul, with a touch of grit and country sway, Unleashed is timeless in its sound, but thoroughly modern in its message. “It is only after exploring and succeeding at risk-taking, that the confidence turns into freedom and limitlessness,” says Mandi, speaking about both herself and her music, “In other words - being set free, is only the beginning.”  •

Donna Hopkins is a complete musician;  singer/songwriter, guitarist, producer, band leader and sound engineer extraordinaire.  Hailing from a small town in rural Alabama, she witnessed hardship first hand, channeling those experiences into the soulful music that she creates and performs.  She arrived in Atlanta when very young and has made it her home.  Her raw, passionate voice is comparable to Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi and she can hold her own with anyone on guitar.  She plays Atlanta venues regularly and has toured and played throughout the Southeast.

On any given day, you’ll find at least one member of
The Occasionals on a stage somewhere. And that’s the way they like it. These guys are always involved in a handful of music or theatrical projects, as well as dealing with the full-time rigor of high school. It’s a master class in time management.  They don’t think of it as having no time. They just want to know "when is the next gig?”. The Occasionals met at the Atlanta Rock ’N Blues Camp (ARBC), a summer teen music program geared toward live performance.  No doubt their desire to perform is influenced by that experience, as well as ARBC’s regularly scheduled teen jams.  That desire coupled with chemistry and kinship make The Occasionals a band you’ll want to follow to see where they’re headed next.  This band of brothers won’t tell you that they’re driven, or compelled, or want to master their craft.  They’ll tell you that they are The Occasionals - simply, because it’s a good time.

Tyler Neal is a singer/songwriter, guitarist, and band leader based out of Atlanta, Georgia. A song means many things to Tyler Neal. It’s a way to connect with the things and people that mean the most to him, a chance to exist in another world for a little while (be it another room or another planet), a journey inward to find his authentic self, and a journey outward to offer it to whoever might be receptive. He’s reaching out to others through music in the way Stevie Wonder, Derek Trucks, and John Coltrane have reached out to him. Tyler is coming off a two-year stint in the last band Colonel Bruce Hampton ever led, and is now building his career, musical ethos, and first solo record around what he learned during that time: The ego is a lie, the moment is the truth, the true Tyler is the goal, and music is the way.  •

As soon as he began talking,
Garrett Collins began singing. From when he was a young toddler singing in the children’s choir at church, singing solos at church, to performing on stage – music has been the driving force in making Garrett the young man he is today. Sharing that music with others comes naturally to this 17 year old singer/songwriter/musician from central Georgia. He puts his heart and soul into his performances, whether it’s a county fair, local bar or representing Georgia at the national level. Garrett currently performs his original music as well as covers the best of the Blues and even throws in some Southern Rock for good measure. If this guy is ever in your area, be sure to go see him, you won’t be disappointed.

Jontavious Willis, 19 years old, from Greenville, GA is a natural musician. His guitar remains in conversation with his smooth tenor throughout each song, so natural it feels like hearing a familiar song for the first time. He’s entirely self taught and steeped in the blues. He has watched every single video on the Music Maker YouTube account at least twice. He can recite names, dates and songs of each artist. He has absorbed all the blues information he can, and his enthusiasm for the genre is tremendous and his performances show this. We are pleased and proud to introduce the world to this young man with the spirit of all the old blues legends who came before him.

David T & Friends hit the stage, be prepared to be entertained by a deep bench of talented musicians and original music that will keep your head bobbing and toes tapping. Lead vocalist and sax player Tommy Lewis oozes the blues. Their horn section packs a punch and the cello will give you the chills. Top it off with a little blues harp and you are in for a kaleidoscopic musical experience

In addition to performing in his own right, Mudcat has spent more than two decades promoting and backing these musical pioneers, organizing multi-day blues events, and bringing these nearly-forgotten artists back in front of appreciative crowds. Mudcat has recorded 13 full length albums and often tours Europe, Central America, and the US. Larry Griffith was brought up in the inner city of Cincinnati, Ohio by a single parent along with nine other siblings where Larry was saturated with the radio and vinyl record sounds of everything from blues, gospel, and soul, to jazz.  In his teens, the family was able to upgrade to the Walnut Hills section of Cincinnati, which housed the legendary King Records.  Seeing great artists in the neighborhood like Freddie King, Bill Doggett, Hank Ballard, Ivory Joe Hunter and even the Godfather of Soul himself James Brown was an ordinary occurrence and Larry’s first recording sessions as a drummer occurred here.  Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys had a profound effect on Larry and he fell in lifelong love with the lyrical phasing of John Coltrane.  Relocating to Atlanta, Georgia in the 1990s, Larry discovered then quickly became immersed in the thriving Atlanta blues scene becoming one of the top drummers in the region.  Then in the early 2000’s, encouraged by a dream he had, Larry learned to play guitar and that allowed him to forge an alliance between his rich, eclectic song writing story telling style which included elements of blues, country, soul and rock with his gumbo approach to guitar and his highly engaging live stage performance.  The result?  You’ll have to check that out for yourself.

TRIBUTE ... a celebration of The Allman Brothers Band, is Atlanta's newest band, faithfully recreating the music of ABB. Assembling a formidable nine-piece lineup, Tribute spent four months in rehearsal in early 2013, focusing on music the Allman Brothers produced over their inspired first five years. The band began performing live in the late spring, drawing strong responses for its dual-lead guitar fury and an instinctive appreciation for how this music was originally written, recorded and then interpreted on stage. Comprised of veteran active musicians as well as some who returned to their instruments after hiatus, Tribute seeks to recreate that unique period in American rock, when psychedelia ebbed and ABB informed us what jazz, rock, country and blues could sound like.

And with a live show second-to-none, the dual slide guitars of Delta Moon carry the listener deep into the heart of the American South, where sinuous Mississippi blues meets the gritty backwoods twang of Appalachia and winds around a rock-steady beat like kudzu on a barbwire fence. Net Rhythms calls it “Music as it should be – raw and honest.” We call it Blues-Infused American Roots.

“Tom Gray and partner in crime Mark Johnson continue to show why they may be the best guitar tandem around.” – Chris Martin, The Examiner

A veteran of the road, Kight headlines at clubs, theaters and festivals, bringing her diverse musical menu to the fans across America and in Europe. Early in her career, Kight was dubbed “The Georgia Songbird”, and today she is considered one of the few true blues vocalists. With her rich voice, and a mastery of the guitar that has her holding her own next to any other player, Kight mesmerizes audiences of all ages, both as a solo and with her band. Award winning blues guitarist, singer, songwriter Little G Weevil (born July 6, 1977) is one of the most deeply moving entertainers on the American Roots and Blues scene today. This high energy and yet very laid back performer sings his heart out and tells his real life stories in a way that is really hard to forget. Ever since he started his career he has focused solely on the music of the American South and this can be clearly heard in his compositions. Now based out of the Atlanta, Georgia area he has paid his dues in Memphis and Birmingham, AL and has taken his original music to fourteen countries.

“He somehow delivers intact the spirit and sound of Blues legends from 80 years ago… A new Blues star is here, he proves it.” – Bob Margolin
